Claiming a mistake early removes the only thing a team cannot work around. When nobody admits anything, the next ten minutes get spent on allocation instead of adjustment, and everybody plays slightly defensively in case the blame lands on them. The person who takes it immediately ends that process and frees everyone to think about the next play.
Say the two words fast and without drama, then move. Do not add an explanation in the same breath. And when somebody else says it first, do not pile on; say your own part and get back to work.
When did you wait for someone else to claim the mistake?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
