Reviewing your own game is hard because you can’t skip the parts where you’re bad.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Watching yourself back removes every comfortable story you had about how it went. In memory you keep the good moments and the reasons for the bad ones; the footage keeps everything, at the same size, in order. That is exactly why it is uncomfortable, and exactly why it is the fastest way to improve.

Watch one short stretch rather than the whole thing, and make yourself stay on the part you would normally jump past. Note what you would do instead. Five minutes a week beats an occasional long session you dread and keep postponing.
