At a new job, “I didn’t know” works once. After that it becomes “I didn’t ask.”
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Ignorance is forgivable and staying ignorant is a decision. The first time something catches you out nobody blames you, because nobody told you, but now you know there was something to know and you have access to the people who could tell you. From there on, not knowing is a choice you keep making quietly.
Keep a running list of things you half understand and clear two of them a week. Ask whoever is nearest, early in the shift, when people have patience. The questions get more expensive to ask later and never cheaper.
What did you never ask about and keep claiming not to know?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
