Deleting the texts doesn’t delete what you did.

Removing the record leaves everything else in place. The other person still remembers, the effect is still in the world, and the only thing that changed is the evidence, which means you now have the original thing plus a second thing you did about it. It tends to feel worse rather than better.

If something is sitting there, deal with the thing itself rather than the trail. Say it to whoever it concerns and do the repair that actually applies. A clean history is not the same as a clear one.
