Most things around you were somebody’s idea before they became background.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
The background of your life is made almost entirely of things that were once someone’s specific idea, argued for, resisted, and eventually normalised into invisibility. Weekends, pockets, road markings, the layout of a keyboard. None of it was inevitable, and all of it now feels like simply how the world is.
When something feels permanent, try finding out when it started. There is usually a date and a person. Knowing that has a practical effect, since things that were decided can be decided differently, including the ones in your own life that feel fixed.
Which thing around you do you never think of as invented?
