An exception is genuinely interesting and needs to be handled as what it is, a case that did not follow the pattern. Once it gets promoted into a slogan, it starts standing in for the general rule, and people make decisions based on the rare case because it is memorable and inspiring.

When a striking example is offered as guidance, ask how typical it is and what happened to everyone who tried the same thing. Keep the exception, since it proves what is possible. Do not let it replace the ordinary distribution when you are deciding what to do.
