The order of the questions can become part of the answer.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

What you are asked first shapes how you answer everything after it. A question about problems puts you in a critical frame, one about successes in a generous one, and the responses that follow are genuinely different even though the person meant them all sincerely. The sequence is part of the instrument.

When designing questions, think about what state each one leaves the person in. And when answering, notice if you have been warmed up in a particular direction. Pausing before the later questions and resetting is usually enough to give an answer that is actually yours.
