A new word can make an old exclusion easier to recognize.

Sometimes a pattern of exclusion has existed for a long time without being nameable, so each instance looked like an isolated incident or a personal misreading. A new word gathers those instances together, and suddenly people can point at the pattern and discuss it as a thing rather than a series of unrelated slights.
When a new term appears for something you had not previously noticed, resist the reflex to dismiss it and ask what it lets people describe. You do not have to adopt every word. It is worth understanding what became visible once it existed.
