The setting you have never changed was chosen by someone, often years ago, for reasons that had nothing to do with your interests. It has been shaping what you see and what is shared ever since, quietly, with the authority that comes from being what was already there when you arrived.

Spend twenty minutes going through the settings on the two or three services you use most. Read what each one actually does. You will change several, and the more useful outcome is realising how many decisions have been made for you by things you never looked at.
