A household chore becomes invisible when it is always finished before anyone else wakes.

Work that is complete before anyone else is awake registers as a state of the world rather than as somebody’s labour. The kitchen is clean, the lunches are made, the household simply runs. The better it is done, the less visible it becomes, which is a poor reward for doing it well.

Find out who does the invisible work where you live and say something specific about it. And if it is you, consider leaving some of it visible occasionally, or simply saying what it takes. People are usually not ungrateful, they genuinely have not seen it.
