A rule’s fairness depends partly on who can afford to challenge its interpretation.

LEADERSHIP
A rule is only as fair as the challenge that keeps it honest. Interpretation drifts, and it drifts toward whoever can afford to contest it, because contested readings are the ones that get corrected. Those without the time, money, or standing to push back receive the version nobody ever tested. The text on the page is identical for everyone and the operative meaning is not.
When you find a rule applied to you in a way that seems off, ask where the interpretation came from and whether it has ever been questioned. Sometimes a single polite request for the reasoning is enough to change it. And if you are in a position to challenge something, remember you are also fixing it for people who cannot.
Which unfair decision did you accept because fighting it cost too much?
