One day the present will be represented by objects we currently consider disposable.

Whatever you throw away without thinking is what your period will be known by. The packaging, the cheap device, the plastic thing that broke, will end up in a case somewhere labelled as characteristic of the early century. Every era is represented by the objects it did not respect, because the respected ones were rare and the disposable ones were everywhere.

There is nothing to do about this except find it slightly clarifying. It puts the current arrangement of important and unimportant things in a longer frame. And it makes the ordinary parts of now easier to look at with some interest.
