The need to have an interesting reason can obscure an ordinary, sufficient preference.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

You are allowed to want something without a story. The pressure to have an interesting reason produces invented ones, which then have to be defended, and the plain preference underneath gets buried. Wanting it is usually sufficient and rarely accepted as sufficient.

Try answering a why with because I like it and stopping. It is uncomfortable and it is honest. It also protects the preference from having to survive the collapse of whatever justification you built for it.
