If two people exchange bodies but keep their memories, which one receives the old debts?

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

The question is about what carries obligation. If memory follows you into a different body, the debts seem to follow the person who made the promises rather than the hands that signed. If the body carries them, then identity is physical and continuous, and the mind is a passenger. Most ordinary intuitions about responsibility assume the two never come apart.

The useful part is noticing which one you reached for first. It tells you what you actually believe holds a person together across time. And it applies in less exotic ways to anyone changed enough by illness or years that the old commitments feel like somebody else’s.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which of your commitments would follow you no matter what changed?
