The question on the exam may matter less later than the question nobody had time to ask.

The examinable question is chosen for being markable. The one that will matter to you in ten years may be the one somebody raised at the end of a lesson and there was no time for, because it did not fit the format or the clock. Assessment shapes what gets attention and it is not selecting for long-term importance.

Keep a note of the questions that interest you but are not required. Return to one occasionally. In your own field this is often where the useful work turns out to be, and nothing external will ever prompt it.
