A piece of fiction can supply a real person with words for an experience the author never had.

Fiction can give someone the words for an experience the author never lived. The invented scene finds a shape that fits a real situation, and the fit is not a coincidence so much as evidence that a shape well made can be borrowed by lives it was not built for. Imagination reaches places testimony cannot.
So when something invented describes your life exactly, take the language and use it. You do not need a matching biography to be entitled to the words. And when you try to describe something you have not been through, remember that accuracy of feeling can be reached without accuracy of fact, which is both a real power and a thing to handle carefully.
