The migratory bird makes a single home from places our maps keep separate.

REFLECTION
A migrating bird treats as one home what our maps insist are separate countries. Its year requires all of it, and the divisions we consider fundamental are simply not features of the world it inhabits. The unity is real and only our categories break it up.
There is a mild lesson about categories in this. Many of the divisions you treat as basic, between work and life, between parts of a family, between phases of your own history, are administrative rather than actual. The thing itself may be continuous. It is occasionally worth asking which of your borders describe something real and which are only the lines on the map you were handed.
Which two places together make up your sense of home?
