The unfamiliar utensil makes an experienced adult briefly visible as a learner.

An unfamiliar utensil turns a capable adult back into a beginner in seconds. All the competence is still there and it simply does not apply, and the exposure of that is uncomfortable in a way disproportionate to the stakes. Adults are unused to being visibly bad at something.
That discomfort is worth seeking rather than avoiding. Put yourself somewhere you are the least skilled person at regular intervals: a class, a new language, a game everyone else knows. It keeps the muscle of learning in use, and it makes you considerably more patient with people who are beginners around you.
Where were you last a beginner in front of other people?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
