The right to speak includes the difficult fact that a listener remains free to be unconvinced.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Being free to say something carries no guarantee that anyone will be persuaded. The right protects the speaking, not the reception, and a listener who hears you fully and still disagrees has done nothing wrong. Confusing the two turns every unpersuaded person into an obstacle or an enemy.
When you have made your case well and it has not landed, sit with the possibility that this is the system working rather than failing. Ask what they see that you do not, once, genuinely. Then let them keep their view. Most of the exhaustion in argument comes from treating agreement as something you are owed.
Whose disagreement do you treat as a failure to listen?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
