A familiar route taken backward can reveal details hidden by habit’s usual direction.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Reversing a familiar route makes it new. Habit fixes the direction, and the direction fixes what you see, so half of a road you have walked for years is effectively unvisited. Nothing changed except the order in which things arrived.
Try it this week, literally. Walk home the other way, sit in a different chair at the table, start the task from the end. The point is not novelty for its own sake but that habit has been quietly editing your perception, and small reversals show you how much you were not seeing.
What did you notice the last time you reversed a familiar route?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
