If your future self sent only a thank-you note, today’s ordinary decisions might become mysterious.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Gratitude arriving with no explanation would make you look at your ordinary days as a mystery containing something important. You would not know which decision mattered, so you would have to treat all of them as candidates, which is a strange and rather good way to live. Significance is usually only visible in retrospect.
You can adopt a version of it now. Assume that something you will do this week matters more than it feels like, and that you will not find out which. That is not a reason for anxiety about every choice; it is a reason for baseline care in the small ones, which is where most of a life is spent anyway.
Which ordinary decision today might your future self be grateful for?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
