The person assigned number one hundred can be the first person for whom the wait is unbearable.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Position in a queue says nothing about how much the waiting costs. The person far back may be fine; the person just behind you may be at the end of what they can bear, and the system distributes places rather than capacities. Fair order and fair outcome are not the same thing.
Which is a reason to look at the people around you rather than at the numbers. Offering your place to someone visibly struggling costs you very little. And if you are the person for whom the wait has become unbearable, you are allowed to say so out loud rather than enduring silently on principle.
When did waiting stop being tolerable for you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
