The suggestion box promises an audience without revealing whether anyone is listening.

The box invites you to speak and tells you nothing about whether anyone reads it. That asymmetry is the whole experience: real effort in, no confirmation back, and after a few tries most people stop. Participation dies from the absence of any evidence that it registered.

If you ever ask people for input, close the loop, even briefly, even to say no. Acknowledgement costs a sentence and is the entire difference between a channel and a hole in a wall. And if you have stopped contributing somewhere because it seemed pointless, that is a reasonable response rather than apathy.
