The stage direction exit gives a character certainty the actor’s own life cannot provide.

CREATIVITY
The instruction to leave is definite in a way real departures never are. A character exits cleanly, at the right moment, with the scene complete; the person playing them has no such clarity about when to leave anything. Fiction supplies the certainty that living withholds.
So do not measure your own decisions against that standard. You will rarely get a clean signal about when to leave a job, a relationship, a city, and waiting for one is how people stay years too long. Decide on the evidence you have, accept that it will feel unfinished, and let the cleanness of the exit be something you build afterwards rather than something you wait for.
What in your life has never had a clean exit?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
