Peace gets easier when you stop attending every argument you are invited to.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Not every provocation requires a response, and many of them come with an implicit expectation that you will show up. Treating each one as an obligation puts your calm in the hands of whoever feels like starting something. Declining is available and it is rarely as costly as it feels.

When something pulls at you, ask what happens if you simply do not engage. Usually the answer is that it passes. Practice with a small one this week and notice how little is lost.
