The work you miss may be different from the workplace you needed to leave.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Leaving somewhere bad does not automatically stop you missing what was good in it. You can be relieved to be out and still grieve the craft, the rhythm, the particular problems you were unusually good at solving. Because those things arrived bundled with the harm, missing them feels like doubting your own decision, and so the missing goes unspoken. Separating the two is what lets you look for the work again without looking for the place.
Write down what you actually miss, in specific terms rather than general ones. Then ask where else that exists, in a job, a project, or an evening. The parts worth keeping are usually portable.
What do you actually miss about the place you were right to leave?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
