A journey feels different when every stop has to prove it was worth the cost.

Auditing an experience while you are inside it changes the experience. Once each museum, meal, and detour has to justify the price of getting there, you are no longer traveling; you are grading, and grading makes it hard to be anywhere. The pressure usually comes from real constraints, since the trip was expensive and may not happen again. But the accounting itself is what turns an afternoon into an obligation.
Decide before you go that the cost is already spent and cannot be recovered by enjoying things correctly. Let one day have no plan attached to it. Judge the trip afterward, if at all, rather than continuously.
Where do you audit your own enjoyment against what you paid?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
