A creative project needs limits that help its best parts remain visible.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Without edges, the good material gets buried in everything else you were also able to include. More instruments, more subplots, more features: each addition is defensible on its own, and together they crowd the thing that made the work worth doing. Limits are not a compromise with your ambition; they are how anyone can see what you actually did. Choosing what to leave out is most of the craft.

Name the one part of your current project that has to survive. Then set a hard limit somewhere, on length, palette, scope, or time, and cut toward that. Whatever you lose was probably competing with the part you named.
