The future you picture should have room for the people you hope will still be there.

Plans made alone tend to describe a life with only you in it. The house, the schedule, the ambition, the move all get designed around what you want, and then the people you love have to be fitted in afterward, if they fit at all. But a future with no space in it for other people’s lives tends to collect that cost later, in a hard conversation.
Describe the next few years out loud to someone who is in them. Ask what they picture and where the two versions differ. Adjust while it is still a picture rather than a decision.
Who appears in your five-year plan besides a better you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
