An unfamiliar word should not become a locked gate around a familiar idea.

A single unknown word can make an entire sentence feel closed, even when the idea inside it is one you already hold in plain terms. Specialist language often exists for precision, but it also works as a fence, and people on the outside tend to assume the difficulty is theirs. Usually the concept is ordinary and only the label is not. The gate is made of vocabulary rather than substance.
When a word stops you, ask what it means or look it up there and then, and say the idea back in your own words. When you are the one using it, offer the plain version alongside.
