A strong performance is easier to repeat when you know which choices made it possible.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

A good day can feel like weather, something that arrived rather than something you produced. But underneath most of them is a set of choices: what you ate, how long you warmed up, what you decided not to worry about, the thing you practised last week. If none of that is recorded, the next attempt starts from scratch and you are back to hoping.

After something goes well, write down the four or five decisions that led into it while they are still fresh. Include the dull ones like sleep and timing. Then run the same setup next time and see what holds.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What made your best day work, exactly?
