A family photograph means more when someone takes time to name the people in it together.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
An unlabeled photograph loses its people within a generation. The faces remain and the relationships go, and what was a record of a family becomes a picture of strangers around a table. The naming is the part that carries forward, and it almost never happens unless somebody deliberately sits down to do it.
Take one album to whoever still remembers and write the names on the back as you go. Record the conversation while you are at it. The stories that come out sideways are usually the ones worth keeping.
