Sometimes the answer is obvious after you stop searching for a complicated one.

Complexity can be a hiding place. A complicated explanation for a problem lets it stay unsolved and interesting, while the simple answer is usually available and usually requires something inconvenient. The search for sophistication is sometimes a way of not acting.
When you are stuck, ask what the obvious answer would be if you were advising someone else. Then check what it would cost you to accept it. That cost is generally why it stayed hidden.
