A craft becomes more personal when you discover which details you enjoy attending to.

Any craft has a hundred small decisions, and nobody cares about all of them equally. One woodworker loves the joinery and tolerates the finish; another lives for the finish. What turns a skill into your own is finding the two or three places where the fussing is a pleasure rather than a duty, and letting the rest be adequate.
Pay attention this month to where the time disappears without effort. That is the signal. Give those parts more room, and give the parts you dislike the simplest treatment that works. A craft you have shaped around your own interest is one you will still be doing in ten years.
