A useful online recommendation should explain what kind of person it would actually suit.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ratings without a reader attached are nearly useless. Five stars from someone whose needs are the opposite of yours will point you wrong, and the number hides exactly the thing that would help: who they were, what they wanted, what they were comparing it against. Most disagreements about products are really disagreements about people.

Spend one sentence of your next review describing yourself and the use. Say who would love this and who should skip it, plainly. When you read one, look for that sentence first, and give less weight to anything that does not tell you who is speaking.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When you recommend something, do you say who it suits?
