A small task may be small only to the person who will not do it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Size is judged from outside the task. Something that takes ten minutes for a person who knows how may take an afternoon for someone who does not, and the visible work is rarely all of it: the deciding, the chasing, the returning, the remembering it every day until it is done. Calling a job small usually means you are not the one doing it.

Before describing something as quick, ask whoever will handle it what it involves. Add the invisible parts to your estimate. And when you hand a task over, hand over what you know about it too.
