The person who tried deserves encouragement that is specific enough to believe.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
General praise slides off. Well done, good effort, that was great: the person hears kindness, which is welcome, but nothing that tells them you actually watched. Specific encouragement is harder to dismiss because it contains evidence, and it also tells them which part to keep doing next time.
When you next want to encourage someone, name one exact thing: the sentence that worked, the moment they kept going, the choice you would not have made. It takes ten more seconds and it reaches somewhere general praise cannot.
Whose effort could you praise in words specific enough to land?
