Do not make a person’s praise responsible for restoring your entire confidence.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
When you are shaken, another person’s good opinion can feel like the fix, and it works for about an afternoon. The weight of that is heavy for them and unreliable for you, because it makes your steadiness depend on somebody else remembering to say the right thing. Praise can warm you; it cannot rebuild what you think of yourself.
Take the encouragement gratefully and then look for evidence you can hold on your own: something you finished, something you handled, something you know you did well. Build the case yourself and let compliments be additions to it.
Whose approval have you been waiting on to feel capable again?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
