The person who comes to you occasionally has noticed that travel is part of the visit’s cost.

Distance is rarely split evenly. One household has small children, an awkward shift, a car that struggles, or simply more to arrange, and the other has an easier journey. Someone deciding to make the trip themselves has done that arithmetic and chosen to carry the harder half, usually without mentioning it.

Look at who has been doing the travelling in your friendships this year. If it has been the same person for a while, make the next trip yourself, and say that you noticed rather than letting it stay unremarked.
