Good food does not need an expensive setting to make an ordinary evening feel cared for.

Care in food comes from attention rather than expense. A plain meal cooked properly, laid out, and eaten at a table with the television off does more for an ordinary evening than a costly one eaten distractedly. What people register is that somebody bothered. The setting is the part you can buy, and the bothering is the part that lands.
Cook something simple this week and set the table properly for it, even for one. Put the phone somewhere else and give the meal the whole time it takes.
What simple meal made you feel looked after recently?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
