A helpful recommendation explains the difficulty along with the benefit.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Recommendations usually arrive with only the good half attached. The book, the route, the doctor, the piece of software, all described by what they gave the person recommending them and none of what they cost. The listener then walks into the hard part unprepared and concludes something is wrong with them.

When you pass something on this week, add the honest sentence: the first three chapters are slow, the parking is terrible, the setup takes an evening. It makes the recommendation more useful and easier to trust. Ask for the same when someone recommends something to you.
