The person receiving feedback may need a little time before they can use it calmly.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
First reactions to criticism are rarely the considered ones. Hearing that your work fell short sets off something quick and defensive, and asking for a thoughtful response in that same minute usually produces either argument or a hollow agreement neither of you believes. The useful thinking tends to arrive a day later, once the sting has gone down.
When you give feedback, say what you saw and then leave it alone. Offer to talk again in a day or two rather than pressing for a reply on the spot. And when you are the one receiving it, give yourself the same gap before you decide what you think.
