A commitment is clearer when both people know what would make it impossible.

Agreements usually fail at the conditions nobody discussed. Two people say yes to a plan while each privately assumes different limits about money, time or what happens if someone gets ill, and the first collision reveals a gap that was there from the beginning. Naming the breaking points early is the difference between a promise and a hope.
When you agree to something significant, add a sentence about what would stop it. Say what you cannot do, and ask what they cannot do. It feels awkward for a minute and saves an argument later, because the trouble will already have a name when it arrives.
Which promise did you make without naming what could break it?
