A positive response deserves the same curiosity as a negative one if you want to understand what worked.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Praise usually gets accepted and filed, while criticism gets examined line by line. That asymmetry means you learn a great deal about your failures and almost nothing about your successes, which is a strange way to run. Something specific made the good thing land, and if you never ask, you will keep repeating the entire performance in the hope that the working part is somewhere inside it.

When someone says they liked what you did, ask them which part. Two follow-up questions will teach you more than a week of guessing, and most people are pleased to be asked.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When something went well lately, did you ask why it worked?
