An opinion becomes less useful when defending it matters more than helping the person who asked.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Advice can turn into advocacy without anybody deciding it should. You offer a view, it gets questioned, and from that moment the conversation is about whether you were right rather than about what the other person should do. They came for help and are now managing your position. The information may still be sound, but it has been made expensive to use.

When your view meets resistance this week, ask a question instead of mounting a second argument. Finding out why their situation looks different to them is worth more than proving your first answer covered it.
