A promise should remain visible to you after it becomes invisible to everyone else.

Most commitments are witnessed once and then forgotten by everyone except you. The person you offered to help stops expecting it, the group moves on, and the only remaining trace is your own memory, which is precisely the thing that fades. Nothing is being enforced any more, and that is the point at which a promise becomes a real test rather than a social one.
Write down what you have said you would do, with dates, somewhere you actually look. Then keep the ones nobody would notice you dropping, because those are what other people eventually call reliability.
Which promise have you kept only because someone was still watching?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
