A pet’s routine is a promise kept through ordinary mornings.

An animal cannot hold a calendar or ask what time it is, so the routine you keep is the only assurance it has that the world is reliable. Breakfast at roughly the same hour and the walk that happens whether or not you feel like it are what safety looks like from the inside. There is no grand version of this promise. It exists entirely in repetition.

On the morning you are least inclined, do the routine anyway and notice what it means to them. If your schedule is genuinely changing, shift the timing gradually rather than all at once.
