The accent you hear is evidence of another language someone already knows.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

An accent is often heard as a deficiency, when it is actually a record of an achievement. The person speaking has learned a second language well enough to do their working life in it, which is more than most of the people judging them have managed. What sounds like struggling is usually a mind doing two things at once.

When you find someone harder to follow, slow down rather than raising your voice. Ask for a repeat as a normal request, without embarrassment on either side. Notice what it took for this conversation to be happening in your language.
