A language learner deserves conversations that are not always lessons.

Constant correction turns speaking into examination. Every sentence becomes something to be marked, and the learner starts choosing safe words over true ones, which is the opposite of the fluency everyone wants. A language becomes yours through being talked with rather than taught at, in conversations where the content matters more than the grammar.
Let small errors pass and answer what the person actually meant. Save corrections for the ones that block understanding, and offer them afterward rather than mid sentence. Talk to them about something real, so the language has a job to do beyond being practiced.
Whose practice did you turn into correction instead of just talking?
