A saved draft can protect tomorrow from an emotion that belonged to tonight.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Feelings are real without being permanent, and the strong ones are the least accurate reporters of what you will want later. Writing the message is useful; it gets the thing out of your chest and onto a page. Sending it is a separate decision, and it is the one that hands tonight’s version of you authority over tomorrow’s relationships. Leaving it unsent is not cowardice, it is a way of consulting yourself twice.

The next time you write something hot, put it in drafts and set the phone down. Read it again in the morning and decide then.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Is there a message you were glad to leave unsent?
